Sonay Do - Musings of a B-School Insomniac

Sonay Do - Click me to listen

I always wanted my 'Hello World' post to be a simple but original piece of music on an acoustic guitar. And I am glad that finally it's here!

This song is a reflection of the 1.5 years of B-School life that I have lived through and hence aptly named it - 'Sonay Do' (Let Me Sleep!). Well it is sometimes exaggerated that B-School goers are heavily sleep deprived. I don't deny that average hours do come down after you join a B-School, however it is still not that lower as it is claimed to be. (the likes of 2-3 hours) But then you do have your share of night-outs and sleep-after-breakfast times over the two years. Not to mention many of us make up for the lost sleep during the night either in the classroom during the lectures or by sleeping during the day and waking up only for lunch or even worse for snacks in the evening! And there you go, your sleep cycle has gone for a toss and somehow this becomes a normal routine for many!

The idea for this song came sometime in the previous term (Wonder who said that 4th term was chill!!). I guess many of my batch-mates would recall the submission week we had in 4th term which was perhaps the busiest week of my B-School life. With night-outs being the norm, there was a time just before dawn when I thought for a while whether it all makes sense in the end? And hence the song! Yes, it does get a lot metaphorical in the end! Perhaps you might accuse me of being hypocritical as well! But then abstractness is necessary for generalization you see. And the idea is to make you relate to it. So these are just random musings as the title indicates and nothing else! Hope you like it. :-)

Subah ki kiranein nahin hain door,
(The sun rise is not too far)
Nindiya aaye na |
(And I am not feeling sleepy)
Na koi shauk yeh mera, naa hai fitoor,
(Neither is this my choice nor my madness)
Majboori mein ghira ||
(But just my helplessness)

Kaise todoon in bediyon ko,
(How do I break free from these chains?)
Na chadna in seediyon ko |
(I do not wish to climb these stairs)
Chahat hai bas udne ki,
(All I want is to fly)
nayi disha ki ore||
(Towards a new direction in my life)

Sonay do, Sonay do,
(Let me Sleep!)
Sapnein hai bunne |
(For I wish to dream)
Sonay do, Sonay do,
(Let me sleep!)
Manzilein hain chunni ||
(For I wish to choose my destinations)
Sonay do, Sonay do
(Let me Sleep!)
Sona hai mujhe, Sonay do ||
(For I just want to sleep, Let me Sleep!!)

Kyun hum chal rahe us raste par,
(Why are all pursuing this path)
Jis par hai pul khada |
(That has a bridge ahead)
Kyun na koode is nadi mein,
(Why can't we jump into the river)
Aur paaye lehron mein mazaa ||
(And enjoy the waves)

Ulti dhar mein tairkar,
(I want to swim against the stream)
Chattanon ko paarkar |
(I want to wade through the rocks)
Dar ki dariya ko laanghkar,
(I want to leap over the valley of fear)
Taare hain batorne ||
(I want to reach for the stars)

Sonay do, Sonay do,
Sapnein hai bunne |
Sonay do, Sonay do,
Manzilein hain chunni ||
Sonay do, Sonay do
Sona hai mujhe, Sonay do ||

Banna hai apni manzil ka dhruv taara|
(I want to act as the pole-star towards my destination)
Armaan ke eenth se banana hai basera ||
(I want my aspirations to act as bricks as I build my dwelling)

Koshish ki boondon se,
(My efforts should serve as the dew-drops)
Sapnon ko hai seenchna |
(With which I wish to nurture my dreams)
Aasha ke kirnon se,
(My hope should acts as light rays)
Khushiyan hai tatolna ||
(With which I wish to find my happiness!)

Sonay do, Sonay do,
Sapnein hai bunne |
Sonay do, Sonay do,
Manzilein hain chunni ||
Sonay do, Sonay do
Sona hai mujhe, Sonay do ||
